Our Network

We’ve built America’s largest, fastest converged network with a simple purpose: connect everyone, everywhere—now and in the future—to more of what they need and love.

Our next-generation network is the largest in the United States and passes more than 63 million homes and businesses, exceeding the fiber footprints of the three largest telecom companies combined. It delivers symmetrical gig-plus speeds and wireless everywhere with more than 23 million WiFi hotspots and the nation’s most reliable 5G network.

63M

Homes and businesses with access to our network nationwide.

23M+

Public WiFi hotspots nationwide.

1/3

Of our broadband customers subscribe to 1 gigabit speeds or more.

700GB

Of data consumed by the average broadband customer every month.

We’ve invested billions of dollars to innovate and expand our network. It continues getting smarter, faster and more reliable to ensure we can meet and exceed every customer's increasing demand for speed and capacity, now and well into the future.

$20B

Invested in the largest network upgrade in the U.S.

More Streaming

Entertainment is responsible for 70% of all data that travels over our network, and nothing is driving demand higher than live sports streaming. With innovations like Enhanced 4K, which delivers 4K HDR video and Dolby Atmos audio at the lowest latency, we’re elevating the live sports experience like no one else can. And, with 23M public WiFi hotspots nationwide, customers won’t miss a single play when they’re on the go.

More Resiliency

Our network is the product of decades of innovation, with reliability at the heart. We’ve built a robust infrastructure – supported by AI and machine learning – that prioritizes always-on connectivity, ensuring consistent service delivery even in the face of extreme weather and sophisticated cyber threats. Today, more than 60% of network issues get fixed before customers know there’s a problem.

More Demand

We constantly evolve our network to add capacity, reach more people, and exceed their rising expectations. We’re deploying next-generation technology throughout our network to deliver multi-gig symmetrical speeds to customers across our growing footprint, all as the average number of WiFi-connected devices has surpassed 20 per home.

WiFi: Fast, Smart, Everywhere

WiFi is how Americans connect today – 90% of smartphone traffic on Xfinity Mobile travels over WiFi, not cellular, and 94% of devices in the home connect to WiFi. That’s why we offer the best WiFi devices for our customers at home and why we’ve built the largest and smartest WiFi network in the nation: three times larger than any other provider.

We’re on a multi-year mission to make our network stronger and smarter. From our engineers in the Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia, to network software developers in Denver and Silicon Valley, to response teams in every city and town we serve – we are united by one mission: to continuously improve our customers’ connected experiences with faster speeds, more capacity and greater reliability, all backed by industry-leading, and award-winning, technology.

Smart Network
Comcast engineers have developed the Comcast Octave platform that checks 4,000 telemetry data points on more than 46 million modems across the network every 20 minutes. The platform applies AI and machine learning to seamlessly optimize our Internet delivery and make our network even faster and more reliable down to the household level.

Next-Gen Devices
We engineer our WiFi devices to maximize the capability of our network. Xfinity’s latest gateway will deliver symmetrical multi-gig speeds and combine next-generation connectivity technologies like WiFi 7 and DOCSIS 4.0. With AI built-in, the gateway can efficiently power up to 300 WiFi devices simultaneously.
